In the upcoming second round of the Shanghai Masters, Casper Ruud, the number eight seed, is set to face Yoshihito Nishioka this Thursday. Here’s our Casper Ruud vs Yoshihito Nishioka bet preview from our tennis experts.
The player from Norway has displayed a commendable performance this season, recording 32 victories from a total of 51 games and clinching the title at the Estoril Open. Additionally, he was the second-best at both the French Open and the Bastad’s Swedish Open.
The 24-year-old Ruud is coming to Shanghai after making it to the quarterfinals at the China Open in Beijing. On his journey to the quarters, he managed to overcome Jan Lennard Struff and Tomas Martin Etcheverry. However, his campaign was halted by Spain’s top player, Carlos Alcaraz, who bested Ruud in a straight-set match, scoring 6-4, 6-2.
Conversely, Yoshihito Nishioka boasts 19 victories from 38 games this season, and notably achieved second place at the Zhuhai Championships. His journey this year also includes reaching the semifinals at the Adelaide International 1.
This talented player from Japan is approaching the Shanghai Masters after being knocked out in the second round at Beijing. He commenced his stint there with a gripping victory against Daniel Altmaier, clinching a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) win. Nishioka is undoubtedly keen to build on this and present a strong challenge to Ruud in their forthcoming match.
Ruud and Nishioka have played twice before, each of them winning one match.
The first match was played on clay at the Madrid Masters in 2021, with Ruud crusing to a 6-1 6-2 win in the round of 32. Since it was played on his preferred surface of clay and this match will be on hard, we shouldn’t look too much into that result.
The pair played last year on hard court at the Seoul Open in South Korea. Nishioka took the win in a close quarterfinal battle, with the Japanese earning a 6-2 3-6 6-2 victory.
Best Ruud vs Nishioka Bet: Nishioka Over 11.5 Games at 1.75 Bet365
Since the hard court season has started, nothing has been easy for Casper Ruud. Four of his six opponents in best-of-three matches have won over 11.5 games, either by beating him or taking him to a third set.
On the other hand, Nishioka has went over 11.5 games in seven of his last nine hard court matches. Coming off his finals run at the Zhuhai Open, he’s playing some of the best tennis of his career and will certainly stay competitive even against the highly-ranked Ruud.
